Ling Presents: Gê Viana
Instituto Ling
2023
We followed the Maranhão visual artist Gê Viana over the course of a week, during the creative process of her intervention on one of the walls of the Ling Institute.
Along pathways "cut open by machete", Gê Viana re-proposes classic images of Brazilian iconography in an intense articulation of memory and ancestry, in the resumption of her identity as an Anapuru Muypurá indigenous person. Through the connection with the territory and the activation of ancestral technologies such as the pipe, other perspectives of freedom, beauty, wealth and power emerge, faced with multiple temporalities of colonial devastation. The work is part of the "Ling Presents" project, this year curated by Bitu Cassundé.
